The project aimed to promote the conservation of freshwater biodiversity in the Oued El Abid watershed through an integrated approach combining scientific knowledge, field actions, and the involvement of local stakeholders. It significantly enriched the knowledge base on the watershed’s freshwater ecosystems and highlighted the value of the ecosystem services they provide.

The project provided concrete support to local initiatives aimed at reducing pressures on aquatic habitats and improving the management of sensitive sites, in close collaboration with communities and local institutions. Several pilot actions were implemented, serving as practical demonstrations of effective and transferable conservation measures.

A key component of the intervention focused on strengthening the capacities of local stakeholders through information, awareness-raising, and technical support activities. At the same time, the project established a governance system and a partnership framework for key biodiversity areas, ensuring the sustainability of achievements and the continuity of conservation efforts.

Finally, all activities were supported by a rigorous monitoring and evaluation system, ensuring the effectiveness of the actions taken and enabling an assessment of the project’s overall impact on the preservation of freshwater biodiversity in the watershed.
