The study on the optimization of irrigation water use in the Souss and Chtouka plains aimed to assess the current economic value of water used by agricultural producers, in a context of increasing pressure on the resource. It also sought to identify and analyze options to improve the economic performance and efficiency of irrigation water use, supporting more sustainable and rational water resource management in the region.
The work began with a thorough diagnosis of irrigation practices and production models, conducted through consultation meetings, participatory workshops, and targeted interviews with stakeholders in the agricultural sector. This diagnosis was complemented by an economic analysis to quantify the value of the water used and the potential gains associated with improved water use efficiency.

Based on this work, the study formulated several proposed actions to optimize water use from technical, organizational, and economic perspectives. These recommendations were incorporated into an Action Plan for the Valorisation of Irrigation Water Use (PAVEI), structured around operational measures and an implementation schedule.
A communication and outreach plan was also developed to facilitate local stakeholder adoption of the results and promote good irrigation practices. The entire work produced detailed reports for each activity, as well as a summary note compiling the main conclusions and strategic recommendations.
