The study aimed to identify new water resources to ensure the drinking water supply for the populations of the Maider Basin communes and to safeguard existing water resources. It provided a comprehensive overview of the geological, hydro-climatological, and hydrogeological aspects to improve the understanding of the area’s hydrogeological functioning, in order to delineate favorable locations for mobilizing groundwater resources needed for the DWS of the Maider communes in the provinces of Tinghir and Zagora.
For each center, village, or group of villages, the study assessed water needs and groundwater resources from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives, and proposed suitable sites for the development of new extraction works (boreholes, wells, etc.).

The activities carried out and the main deliverables were as follows:
- Literature review and collection of all necessary information and data, including hydro-climatological, geological, and hydrogeological data
- Hydrogeological study
- Delineation of locations suitable for mobilizing groundwater resources for the drinking water supply of the Maider communes in Tinghir Province
- Development of precise mapping of areas suitable for groundwater extraction for the DWS of the Maider communes
- Detailed description of the aquifer levels to be tapped
- Definition of the types and expected productivity of the recommended extraction structures
