The study includes three components related to the state of water resources in the region, their use, and their sustainable management:

Water accounting

  • Critical analysis of the strategies developed for water resources in the concerned basin.
  • Analysis and assessment of the potential and mobilizable surface and groundwater resources in the basin draining the Drâa-Tafilalet region.
  • Hydrological modeling of the basin.
  • Water use: Allocation and use of the resource among the different consumers—agriculture, drinking water supply, mining, crafts, and industrial units. As part of this mission, a survey was conducted with 504 farmers.
  • Preparation of the overall water resources balance by basin.

Water audit

The audit considered the following aspects:

  • Regulatory
  • Institutional
  • Legal
  • Socioeconomic

Investment plan

  • Analysis of public and private capital levels and recurrent expenditures
  • Participatory development of an investment and sustainable management plan, including environmental impacts, to improve knowledge and information on water resources management at the basin level
  • Implementation of the investment plan at the project sites of OASIL
